TRACK 2 TEACH

Central to the success of any lesson is a sign of progression in the students learning.  Teachers should be always pushing their learners to improve and take on greater challenges.

Being aware of your students current education level and where it is going next is a daily concern of teachers around the globe.

As a teacher myself I have recently tried to improve my school's current tracking system.  The results are below as well as information about how to use it in your school too.

RAISEOnline (UK)

RAISEOnline is a system used by headteachers and Ofsted inspectors throughout the UK to track pupil progress and analyse the data to improve education.  Having felt frustrated that as teachers we don't have access to RAISEonline I set about creating my own version that acts as an internal system to track and analyse tracking data to help in my school.

Below is a run down of the resource that I have made that we use in school to track the progress of our students.  It has been made using the current (2013) UK system, though with some further information from people I could make adjustments to make it work for you, wherever in the world you teach.

Assess 2 Teach tracking sheet

The tracking sheet above is my pride and joy.  It has taken me a really long time to set up and is proving to be incredibly helpful in our school and other schools locally.  The sheet is basically an in school version of RAISEOnline that all members of staff have access to.

At its most basic level it acts as a teacher's tracking sheet to monitor the progress of the class, just like many other paid for tracking systems this one is filled in throughout the course of the year to track progress but it has a number of extra features.

As you can see from above the sheet is laid out with the childrens names on the far left.  At the top it creates a number of summary statistics such as percentage making age related progress, percentage completing their targets and percentage making 4 or more points progress; this is all statistics that RAISEOnline is used to work out.  As the results are updated these statistics automatically update as you go.

The orange section in the middle is the only part you need to fill in, this section is made up of updated targets and the levels that the children are assessed as being throughout the year (see Assess 2 Teach).

On the right hand side the sheet works out the points progress made by each child, this again updates automatically as it is used.

This is all fairly standard but where the system really starts to impress is with the OVERVIEW sheet.  The productis currently set up to have 5 sheets; Reading, Writing, Numeracy, Science and Overview.

Here is a preview of the overview sheet.

As you can see from above the Overview sheet shows you at a glance all of the key information about your class.

On the left you can see all of the statistics about the 4 major subject areas.

The rest of the sheet then allows you to quickly filter through all of the results in the whole spreadsheet to check for example what progress a single child is making in all subject areas, or who in the class has not completed their target yet in numeracy.  Simply click on the answer to the question you wish answered about your class and the sheet will highlight the information that you need.  These requests for information can also be stacked so for example if I want to find out which children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) have not completed their reading target this can be shown in 2 clicks.

This system is then extended again to share all of the above information across the school and in particular with subject leaders.

This aspect of the system proved to be incredibly popular with my school's management staff and other schools.  This sheet takes all of the information collected from all of the class sheets and displays all of the key statistics in one whole school Overview.  Each subject leader in school then has access to the whole school's results and progress in their given subject.  An incredibly powerful tool, especially when Ofsted visit and would like to check Subject Leaders knowledge of their subject area's performance.

The Tracking system was set up by me (a teacher) for other teachers, but has taken a lot of work.  Due to the multiple sheets and systems running this if you would like it set up in your school please e-mail for more information.  All you need to run it is Excel 2010!

To receive the version that we use simply click on the Buy Now icon and I'll e-mail you the current version that we are using in

school.  If you would like this version tweaked or a new version for a bigger/smaller school set-up then please do let me know

and I'll get on it.

Prices:

Current running version £250

Bespoke version for school costed at £2.50 per student (tom2teach@gmail.com me to set this up and sort out payment).

This is offered at such a cheap price compared to other systems as it is made simply by me (a teacher) and use Microsoft Excel to work, which I'd imagine you already have in school.
